Fruit

It's been a busy season as the holidays approach and the year winds to an end. The mango trees in the yard have been dropping more mangos than I can eat, so every few days, I have been cutting them up and freezing them. One day I decided to make mango sorbet. It turns out a lot of mangos don't equal a lot of puree, so the dogs and I went out to get more. I came back with mangos and fresh lemon. There are two varieties of mango in my yard- one with mostly pulp and juice and one with a lot of flesh. The combination makes a delicious puree. As I went to cut one of the lemons, I found the inside was black and rotten.

It made me think about our lives. The priority should be spiritual things.... it's all about fruit that endures. Yet just because something looks good on the outside doesn't mean it is. That bright, shiny lemon was disgusting inside. I've been teaching some ladies about our motives for good works. If we are trying to earn salvation or doing it for ourselves, it won't bring a reward, even if it looks good on the outside. Some mangos didn't look ripe yet but were soft, and some looked ripe but were hard. Does our character match our apperance? A few mangos were left over and sat in my fruit basket for a day or so. Last night I kept hearing a popping squishy sound. A bit of movement caught my eye and out from a yummy looking mango crawled a not yumy worm. As I chucked the offending mango into the waste, I was reminded that even the nicest outsides can hide worms. Are our lives a sweet savor to God, or does He find something else on the inside? I hope my life yields good fruit- not less pleasant surprises!
