Years

10 "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."

-Psalm 90:10-12

I picked up some water bottles recently, and set the last of the previous pack on top of the new one. A bit later, I noticed there was a total of 40 bottles- the same as my age. It was a reminder to me of how our years can seem many or few. They can go quickly or slowly. But when we look back it doesn't seem like all that much time. The Bible reminds us that our years are limited. How we spend the days that make them up matters.

When we number our days, keeping in mind that we have a limited time to serve God, it can help us to prioritize what matters most. When we think about what legacy we will leave, it helps us to seek for wisdom. It's easy to get caught up in the momentary pleasures, but when we look back we will have little to lay at our LORD's feet. Are we numbering our days, applying our hearts to wisdom, and laying up treasure in eternity today?
